Haunting ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Clips Show Ruined Cities (Videos)

The next chapter in the “Apes” series takes place in an ape-dominated future

Humanity’s cities have deteriorated as the apes begin to take over in these three new clips from “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

The short time-lapses show the world falling into disrepair in the wake of the “Simian Flu” outbreak that was unleashed at the end of the first film, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” Ten years have passed since the events of the previous film, and judging by these clips, it does not look good for us. The videos also show exactly when the film takes place — 2026.

Vines creep up buildings and weeds tangle over ruined streets and abandoned blocks. Landmarks such as London’s Big Ben have been destroyed as nature takes over the abandoned cities.

The time-lapses set a haunting scenario for the upcoming film, which arrives in theaters July 11, 2014.
