Hillary Clinton Delivers First Public Speech Since Election Loss: ‘Never Give Up’ (Video)

“There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to do was curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again,” Clinton says

In her first public speech since her shocking loss to Donald Trump in the presidential election, Hillary Clinton admitted the last week has been tough.

Speaking at the Children’s Defense Fund ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Clinton admitted that, “coming here tonight wasn’t the easiest thing for me to do.”

“There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to do was curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again,” Clinton said.

While Wednesday night’s appearance was on the books before her campaign ended, a Clinton aide told CNN that there “is no more fitting place for her first formal remarks following last week.”

During her speech, Clinton said that while she was disappointed in the results of the election “more than I could ever express,” the campaign was never about one person or one election.

Clinton ended her address urging her supporters to continue fighting for their values and to never give up.

“I know this isn’t easy,” she said. “I know that over the past week people have asked themselves whether America is the country we thought it was … But please, listen to me when I say this: America is worth it,” she said.

“Our children are worth it. Believe in our country, fight for our values, and never, ever give up.”

Last Thursday, Clinton was spotted by a supporter, who bumped into her while strolling with her children in Chappaqua, New York.

Margot Gerster got a hug and a selfie — snapped by Bill — with the former secretary of state.
