Hollywood Film Awards Bomb in First Televised Airing

CBS ties the CW in ratings with inaugural telecast of ceremony and after-show

The inaugural airing of the Hollywood Film Awards on CBS got off to a very rough ratings start on Friday night.

Running the ceremony itself and related programming throughout its primetime slate, CBS averaged a meager 0.5 rating/2 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic — placing it behind ABC, Fox and NBC, and tying CBS with the CW, a traditionally poor performer in the demo.

In total viewers, CBS averaged 3.7 million for the night, putting it in third place behind ABC and NBC.

The ceremony itself, running from 8 to 10 p.m., averaged a 0.5 rating with 4.1 million total viewers, while the after-party running from 10 to 11 averaged a 0.4 rating with 2.7 million total viewers.

To be fair, expectations were modest for the Hollywood Film Awards, a new ceremony with a Friday night try-out. Even so, the numbers equate to a far-from-encouraging start.

For the night, ABC took first place in ratings with a 1.4/5 and in total viewers with 6.5 million. The victory was largely due to “Shark Tank” at 9 p.m., which was the night’s highest rated program with a 1.7/6 rating.

NBC, airing “Dateline,” “Grimm” and “Constantine,” was second in ratings and total viewers with a 1.2/4 and 5.5 million.

Third-place Fox, whose primetime slate consisted of “Masterchef Junior” and a “Gotham” repeat, averaged a 0.6/2. The network was fourth in total viewers with 2.1 million.

Wrap Party Report’s Mikey Glazer was on the scene at Hollywood Palladium Friday night to bring us everything that didn’t happen on TV, which most notably included a bizarre appearance by Johnny Depp that set social media abuzz.
