‘Homeland’ Star Mandy Patinkin Joins Zach Braff’s Kickstarter Movie ‘Wish I Was Here’

The Emmy Award and Tony Award-winning actor will play Braff's father in the independent film

Emmy-winning "Homeland" star Mandy Patinkin has joined the cast of Zach Braff's sophomore feature "Wish I Was Here," which has been made possible by Kickstarter.

Braff stars as Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, father and husband who is still trying to find his identity and purpose at age 35. Patinkin will play his father.

Braff, who proved himself a capable filmmaker with his debut feature "Garden State," is directing from a script he co-wrote with his brother Adam Braff.

Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg are producing via their Double Feature Films banner.

Launched on April 24, Braff's Kickstarter campaign has amassed more than 38,000 backers and has raised over $2.6 million, well past his goal of $2 million. With nine days remaining in the campaign, “Wish I Was Here” is believed to have driven 20,000 new users to Kickstarter.

Patinkin won a Tony Award in 1980 for his performance in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Evita" and an Emmy Award for the long-running series "chicago Hope." He's also well known for starring in "The Princess Bride" and the CBS series "Criminal Minds." Patinkin currently stars as Saul Berenson on Showtime's "Homeland."

He's represented by ICM Partners and attorney Jeff Bernstein.
