Darrell Ward, who starred on the History reality series “Ice Road Truckers,” died Sunday in a plane crash, a spokesperson for History told TheWrap on Monday. He was 52.

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of Darrell Ward, a beloved member of the History family,” the network said in a statement. “He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”

A post on Ward’s Facebook page indicated that the reality TV star was en route to Missoula, Montana, from The Great American Truck Show in Dallas when the plane impacted.

Ward’s co-pilot also perished in the crash.

Ward was on his way to begin filming a pilot for a documentary-style show about the recovery of plane wrecks.

“An investigation is ongoing and more information will be made available at a later time as the National Transportation Safety Board will be handling they investigation,” [sic] the Facebook post said.

“While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,” the Facebook post continued.

“Ice Road Truckers,” which premiered in 2007, follows drivers as they navigate seasonal routes, crossing frozen lakes and rivers in Canada and Alaska. The series recently premiered its 10th season.

Ward, from Montana, came aboard the series in its sixth season.
