The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has named Isan Elba, daughter of Idris Elba, as its 2019 Golden Globes Ambassador. She will assist with the distributing of trophies during the 2019 Golden Globe Awards ceremony and work with a nonprofit organization to raise awareness for the cause of her choosing.

“I feel honored to hold this title and use this role to not only further educate people on the work of the HFPA, but also shine a light on issues that I care about,” said Elba.

“Mental health, specifically among African Americans and my peers in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about,” added Isan Elba. “There’s this perceived stigma and I’ve seen friends struggle. We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help.”

The HFPA changed the title of the honorary position last year from Miss Golden Globe to Golden Globe Ambassador, seeking to make the position more gender-neutral. The position is given to the child of a well-known actor. Simone Garcia Johnson, daughter of Dwayne Johnson, served as ambassador at last year’s Golden Globes.

The 2019 Golden Globes will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 6, 2019 and will air live on NBC.
