"Pacific Rim" promises giant robots battling giant monsters but the trailers, and now the first clip from director Guillermo del Toro's upcoming sci-fi movie, also promise multiple monologues from a domineering Idris Elba.

"You have no idea who the hell I am or where I've come from and I am not about to tell you my whole life story," Elba says while scolding Hunnam.  "I do not need your sympathy or adoration, all I need is your compliance and your fighting skills. And if I can't get that, then you can go back to the wall that I found you crawling on."

Elba plays Hunnam's superior in a military force that operates Jaegers, giant robots that are Earth's last hope against Kaiju, giant monsters that emerge from beneath the ocean.
