IMAX has hired Peter I. Morris to be executive vice president of the company’s entertainment unit and senior vice president of the overall corporation.

Reporting to IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster, Morris’ role was made effective July 5.

Morris will be working closely with Foster on the company’s strategy and expanding its domestic and international film slate with the development of new content.

Morris, who comes from Funny Or Die, has 10-plus years of experience in senior management, business development and legal affairs, dealing with film, television and digital media. He also has deep knowledge of marketing and distributing original and user-generated content across digital platforms.

“As the digital age continues to transform the creation, consumption and distribution of content, we are actively exploring new opportunities for IMAX that will allow us to create new, high-end entertainment experiences,” Foster said in a statement.

“Peter has been at the forefront of some of the most successful content initiatives that have helped shape the way people consume entertainment. He is a true innovator who I’m pleased to say represents the next generation of leadership for IMAX Entertainment.”

Morris joins IMAX after six years at Funny Or Die, where he was most recently general counsel and vice president of business affairs and strategy.
