Ion Inks New Deals With Warner Bros., Fox, Sony, MGM

Cable channel signs new agreements for 85 (mostly old) films

Ion TV, the four-year-old premium cable channel, announced on Wednesday another round of deals with several studios that will net the network 85 feature films — its largest movie buy to date.

Ion inked agreements with Warner Bros., Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures Television and MGM for the new slate. Its deal with Warner Bros. is the biggest — with Ion getting 44 films. (The movies, though, are mostly old — with Ion highlighting “Starsky & Hutch,” “The Perfect Storm” and “Analyze This” and “That” in its release.)

The deal with Sony netted Ion 16 titles, including “Ali” and “Vantage Point,” and more than a dozen (including the Paul Walker and Jessica Alba island action romp “Into The Blue,” a personal favorite) from MGM.

The network picked up several films from Twentieth Century Fox, including the Academy Award-winner “Slumdog Millionaire.”

The new movies will begin airing this month as part of Ion TV’s expanded day and late night schedule.

Ion TV, which launched in 2006, is currently in over 98 million U.S. households.
