Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke Fight for Survival in ‘Everest’ Trailer (Video)

Josh Brolin also stars in Baltasar Kormakur’s fact-based thriller, which opens in theaters on September 18

Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke battle the elements in the first trailer from “Everest,” a fact-based thriller recounting two different expeditions attempting to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain.

As revealed in the trailer released Thursday, “Everest” shows an intense battle of man versus nature. The two groups, led by Scott Fischer (Gyllenhaal) and Rob Hall (Clarke), are challenged beyond their limits when one of the biggest snowstorms in history slams Everest. What started as a lifelong goal quickly becomes a battle for survival against the elements.

Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Martin Henderson, Emily Watson and Keira Knightley also star.

The movie is based on the 1996 Mount Everest disaster as outlined in Jon Krakauer’s best-selling book “Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster.”

Baltasar Kormakur directed the movie. “Everest” opens in theaters Sept. 18.
