Chadwick Boseman Plays James Brown in Funky First Trailer for Biopic ‘Get On Up’ (Video)

Tate Taylor directed the Universal movie, which co-stars Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Dan Aykroyd

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for its James Brown biopic “Get On Up,” which stars Chadwick Boseman (“42”) as the Godfather of Soul.

Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer co-star alongside Dan Aykroyd, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Jill Scott, Craig Robinson, James DuMont, Josh Hopkins and Nick Eversman as Mick Jagger, who is a producer on the film.

“Get on Up” follows Brown’s rags-to-riches story and takes audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

Tate Taylor (“The Help”) directed from a script by Jez & John-Henry Butterworth and Steven Baigelman. Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Jagged Films’ Mick Jagger produced alongside Victoria Pearman and Erica Huggins. Taylor also produced via his Wyolah Films, whose John Norris executive produced.
