“Batman v Superman” director Zack Snyder set the internet ablaze on Thursday night after revealing Jason Momoa in full Aquaman costume on Twitter. From Hollywood filmmakers to average Joes and Janes, everyone reacted big to the superhero’s new look.

“You took Aquaman from guppy to great white! This sea [man] makes me wet,” wrote Kevin Smith“Cop Out” director and comic book superfan.

Many supported what they felt was a bold choice in casting the non-white actor Momoa to play Arthur Curry, aka DC Comics’ Aquaman. “According to the new picture of Aquaman, the lost kingdom of Atlantis was ethnically diverse, so that’s pretty cool,” @13spencer tweeted.

Most also supported Snyder’s gritty look for the Justice League’s aquatic superhero and a monochromatic suit of armor, which looked far less cartoonish than the greens and reds he wears in comics. “And BAM! Aquaman is instantly cool,” writes @justinbokc.

Others were supportive of Momoa’s look, but didn’t love the way in which Snyder revealed it: “That Jason Momoa/Aquaman photo is cool and all but do we really need an official photo of a cameo in a movie coming out a year from now?” MTV’s Josh Horowitz asked.

And then there were some who didn’t have much of an opinion, one way or the other: “I like Jason Momoa but my reaction to him in the Aquaman pic is basically nil,” @Meyer78759 tweeted.

Brandon Routh, who has played Atom on The CW’s “Arrow” and had a turn as Clark Kent in “Superman Returns,” is just thrilled two actors raised in Norwalk, Iowa, are getting so many good parts:

Honolulu-born Momoa took to his own Instagram account to express his gratitude to Snyder, saying “E hui Ka Hiku! Unite the seven. It’s on kanaka maoli suppa hero. Aloha.aquaman BOOM. Mahalo zack.”
