8-Year-Old Jump Roper Featured on Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’ Killed in Car Accident

Jeremiah Grant was struck by an SUV while walking home from Honey Bees team fundraiser

Jeremiah Grant, an 8-year-old competitive jump roper from Jersey City, New Jersey, who was featured on Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” in August, was struck by a car and killed on Saturday afternoon.

Grant was walking home from a team fundraiser that afternoon when a 60-year-old man driving a red Jeep Compass hit him.

The child was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead 20 minutes after the accident.

According to New York’s PIX 11, the operator of the SUV stopped after passing drivers and pedestrians alerted him that his vehicle had struck a pedestrian. The man stayed at the scene. No charges have been filed.

“We were saddened to hear of Jeremiah’s passing,” a “Tonight Show” spokesperson told TheWrap. “He was a break out performer and made so many people happy with his performance. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this time.”

Watch Grant’s team, The Honey Bees, perform on the NBC late-night show above. He is the smallest member.
