It’s not difficult to make Jimmy Fallon laugh, but when rapper Cardi B stopped by the “Tonight Show” on Wednesday night, the host could barely control himself while listening to her sassy comments — not to mention patented “zing” sound effect.
The rapper skyrocketed to fame in September for becoming the first solo female artist to top the singles charts in 19 years with her breakout hit “Bodak Yellow.” Fallon addressed this point, as well as many of her idiosyncrasies, like how she got her name.
“My name come from, you know what, my sister name is Hennessy. You know what I’m sayin’, my sister name is Hennessy, right? So everybody used to call me Bacardi,” Cardi B said. “So I always called myself Bacardi, right? And then it was my Instagram name — Bacardi, Bacardi B — but for some reason, my Instagram kept getting deleted, and I think it was [the brand] Bacardi that had something to do with it. So I just turned it to Cardi B.”
Fallon tried to hide his breakage by burying his face in his coffee mug. That worked for about a minute until Cardi B started to explain to him her gift-giving strategy this Christmas.
“Because you wanna know something, everybody that I know got kids and that’s just a lot of kids,” she said. “And I got new God kids out of nowhere. You know, once you start making money everybody want you to be their kids’ godmother or somethin’.”
This quip was too much for Fallon, who couldn’t stop laughing, including Cardi B’s story about her fiance Offset proposing with a giant ring at one of her concerts.
