Joel Edgerton Joins DiCaprio in Luhrmann’s ‘Great Gatsby’

Warner 3D remake will also stars Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher

Aussie actor Joel Edgerton will play Tom Buchanan in Baz Lurhmann's "The Great Gatsby," TheWrap has confirmed.

He'll join British actress Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher in the Warner Bros. adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's great American novel.

A couple of Americans are in the movie, too: Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire star as Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway.

Ben Affleck had been in talks for the role of Buchanan, but scheduling conflicts made chances slim from the start.

It's been a big year for Edgerton. This year, he's in Peter Hedges' "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," Kieran Darcy Smith's "Say Nothing," Gavin O'Connor's "Warrior" and Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s "The Thing."

Luhrmann is producing with Catherine Martin and Red Wagon's Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick.

The movie is in preproduction now with an August start date.

Deadline first reported the news.
