John Oliver Tells RadioShack Critics to ‘Go F–k Yourselves’ (Video)

The “Last Week Tonight” host was not happy with the disrespect towards the retail chain, which filed for bankruptcy last week

RadioShack has at least one advocate left: “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver.

Oliver took time out during the Season 2 premiere of his HBO late-night show on Sunday to defend the electronics retailer, which announced last week that it will close its nearly 4,000 stores nationwide.

“The death of RadioShack in itself is not surprising,” Oliver said. “What is surprising is the glib, jokey tone with which its demise has been discussed over the past year.”

Oliver played several news clips of pundits declaring the 94-year-old chain an anachronism in the 21st century and joking about its bankruptcy. Oliver likened this to someone who sits across from their grandfather at Thanksgiving and says: “I don’t really see the point of Grandpa Fred in 2015. Frankly I’m sort of surprised he still exists.”

The British host then offered RadioShack free access to a new going-out-of-business video that he and the “Last Week Tonight” team put together. Although it started off innocently enough, the TV spot quickly assumed a very angry tone against critics.

“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” airs Sundays on HBO at 11 p.m./10 c.
