Johnny Depp’s Australia Apology Mocked by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel (Video)

Late-night hosts run wild after actor and wife Amber Heard avoid jail for illegally bringing dogs into country

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s apology video to the Australian government was roundly mocked on late-night TV Monday by both Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.

Colbert appeared in a spoof of the video as Depp, alongside a woman whom he said was not his wife, but rather a woman he smuggled into Australia along with several dogs, pigs and birds.

Colbert then performed his own rendition of the Australian national anthem to “further honor your proud island of exiled British degenerates.”

Kimmel likewise had fun with the video. To make it less uncomfortable to watch, he ran it through several Snapchat filters, including a particularly disturbing face swap.

The video was played as part of an Australian court case against Heard for breaking the country’s biosecurity laws. The “Pineapple Express” star was facing a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, but avoided time behind bars on Monday by pleading guilty in Southport Magistrates Court in Queensland to providing false information on her incoming passenger card.

In May 2015, Heard flew into Australia with Pistol and Boo to visit Depp on the set of “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” but failed to obtain the proper permits for bringing animals into the country as required by law. The government then said that the couple had to get the dogs out of the country or else they would be euthanized.
