Lionsgate released the first trailer for their upcoming drama “Freeheld” on Thursday.
Based on a true story, the film follows New Jersey police lieutenant Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) and her registered domestic partner Stacie Andree (Ellen Page) as they battle to secure Hester’s pension benefits when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The film also stars Michael Shannon as Hester’s partner and Steve Carell as a gay lawyer who helps Hester and Andree rally support for their cause. The film was written by Ron Nyswaner and directed by Peter Sollett.
