Kaley Cuoco has issued a public apology after posting a picture of her dogs sitting on an American flag while celebrating the 4th of July.

“First off, please know, I have the utmost respect for my country. I am a proud American in every sense of the word,” Cuoco wrote on Instagram. “I understand the American flag stands for our freedom and represents American heroes, past and present.”

“I made a mistake by posting the picture that was taken of my sweet dogs posing on an American flag,” she continued. “I sincerely apologize to anyone that has been offended by my previous post. This is no way reflects my feelings toward what the American flag represents.”

Cuoco concluded by saying that life can be difficult for those living in the public eye, as mistakes like the photo become “amplified.” “I am not perfect,” she said. “I am a proud American, today, tomorrow, always.”

The original image, which Cuoco has since deleted, saw her three dogs wearing American flag bandanas. Two of them were clearly sitting on an American flag that was laid out across the ground.

Cuoco is best known for playing Penny on the hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” She previously starred alongside John Ritter and Katey Sagal in “8 Simple Rules.”
