Katy Perry Drops New Single ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ Ahead of Grammys (Video)

Song accompanied by lyric video featuring a hamster and mini cheeseburgers

Katy Perry released her new single “Chained to the Rhythm” on Friday, accompanied by a lyric video featuring a hamster who gets treated to the meal of a lifetime.

Throughout the video, a pair of well-groomed hands prepare a meal in a dollhouse kitchen. The feast includes a mini cheeseburger, some pasta with meatballs and even a tiny cake. At the end of the video, the hamster digs in.

The tune features lyrics that hint at people becoming complacent in their lives and the dangers therein. Perry sings at one point, “Come on, turn it up, keep it on repeat/Stumbling around like a wasted zombie/Yeah, we think we’re free.”

Later, she sings, “Living our lives through a lens/Trapped in our white-picket fence/Like ornaments/So comfortable, we live in a bubble.”

The song also features a lyric from Skip Marley, the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley. Perry is expected to perform the song live at this Sunday’s Grammys.
