The as-yet-untitled series stars James as a police officer who retires after 20 years on the force and looks forward to spending more time with his wife and kids, only to find that the retired life is not as easy as he thought.

Hayes will play Donna, Kevin’s wife of 20 years, who has had to hold the family together before her husband’s retirement.

Hayes previously starred in seven seasons on the cult comedy “Childrens Hospital,” and he held a regular role on “Guys With Kids.” She has also appeared on “Parks and Recreation,” “New Girl” and “Parenthood.”

Taylor Spreitler will play Kendra, the couples college-aged daughter. Ryan Cartwright will play Chale who’s in love with Kendra.

Mary-Charles Jones  will play Sara, the teenaged daughter, and James DiGiacomo will play Jack, Kevin’s youngest child. Leonard Earl Howze will play Goody, Kevin’s former partner on the police force and one of his closest friends.

James landed a series production commitment for the show in October. James will write and executive produce the series in addition to starring. Bruce Helford and Rock Reuben will also write and executive produce, while James’ producing partner Jeff Sussman will executive produce.

The series, which has received a 13-episode order, will be produced by CBS Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television in addition to James’ Hey Eddie Productions banner. CBS previously ran the Kevin James starrer “The King of Queens” from 1998 to 2007.
