‘Kinky Boots’ Musical Sets Broadway Opening Date

"Kinky Boots," based on the 2005 film of the same name, features music by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein

"Kinky Boots," a new musical by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein and Grammy Award winner Cyndi Lauper, will make its Broadway bow on April 4, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Gavin BondPreviews begin March 5, 2013, following a pre-Broadway engagement at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre in October.

The musical, based on the 2005 film of the same name, revolves around a young man who inherits his father's failing shoe factory. As he struggles to save the business, the young man has a chance encounter with a drag queen, who helps him reinvent the floundering footwear factory.

Stark Sands ("Journey's End," "American Idiot") and Billy Porter ("Angels in America," Smokey Joe's Cafe") lead the cast of 32. The show will be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

Broadway veterans Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig are producing "Kinky Boots."
