Kristen Wiig to Star in, Executive Produce Black Comedy ‘Imogene’

Wiig, who starred in and co-wrote “Bridesmaids,” signs on to Maven Pictures’ first film

Just off the success of "Bridesmaids," Kristen Wiig will star in and executive produce the black comedy "Imogene" for Maven Pictures.

The movie, a passion project for Wiig, is dark: It is "the story of a moderately successful New York playwright who stages a fake suicide attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to end up being forced into the custody of her gambling-addicted mother," according to Maven.

Wiig has the title role of Imogene.

Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini ("American Splendor," "Cinema Verite") are directing.

Maven is Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler's new company. The two will produce with Anonymous Content's Alix Madigan.

"Bridesmaids" has grossed nearly $207 million worldwide, and propelled Wiig — a "Saturday Night Live" regular — into movie stardom.
