There was finally good news for Lamar Odom on Friday.
The former Los Angeles Lakers star, who was hospitalized Tuesday after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, opened his eyes and was able to communicate, USA Today reported. Odom’s eyes appeared to move in reaction to voices and other noise.
Odom was responsive to communicative attempts from his estranged wife Khloé Kardashian, according to his former Rhode Island University basketball coach Jim Harrick.
“She reached down and said ‘you know I love you’ and he kind of nodded,” Harrick told USAToday. “Three or four days after being scared to death and fearing the worst, that is a little hope, a little progress. She texted me that (information).”
“I think she is the best thing to have ever happened to him,” he added
ET also reported that when asked if he wanted to see his children, the 35-year-old former NBA player communicated “Yes,” according to a source, though it is unclear if he spoke or used body language.
After collapsing at the Love Ranch brothel three days into his stay, Odom was initially rushed to a local hospital in Pahrump, Nevada, before being transferred to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas where he has been in critical condition ever since.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Nye County Sheriff Sharon A. Wehrly said that two brothel employees called 911 and reported that Odom had been using cocaine on Saturday, but it was not known whether the usage continued throughout the weekend.
The sheriff also said they reported that Odom had taken “up to 10” tablets of herbal sexual enhancement supplements.
