Oscar Performance: ‘Lego Movie’ Nominated Song ‘Everything Is Awesome’ Sung by Lonely Island, Tegan and Sara (Video)

Best Original Song nominee gets rousing, Lego-filled performance with help from Will Arnett’s Batman and Questlove

Anytime a song from an animated film is in contention for an Oscar, the telecast is challenged with staging it in real life. For “The Lego Movie’s” rousing hit “Everything Is Awesome,” they tapped some “SNL” gems, indie rockers and a spoof-tacular Batman.

The Lonely Island — aka Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone — joined Tegan and Sara in singing and rapping the track, music and lyrics by Shawn Patterson. They were joined onstage by Will Arnett dressed as Batman (whom he voiced in “Lego Movie”) with Questlove of “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” decked out as sidekick Robin.

Armies of dancers paid homage to the animated film, whose snub for Best Animated Film was deeply felt by the industry and moviegoers.

Lego Oscar statuettes were handed out to A-listers in the crowd to draw them into performance, including Oprah Winfrey, Steve Carell and Channing Tatum.
