Lena Dunham got Maria Shriver more than a little flustered on “Today” on Friday with a well-placed “penis.”
During an interview for the upcoming premiere of the final season of “Girls,” Shriver said that she had watched the first three episodes of the season.
“You saw a penis, right?” Dunham asked as innocently as possible.
“Well, I saw more than that,” Shriver said after a brief pause, followed by nervous laughter. “You caught me there for a second. I’m not sure if you’re allowed to say that on television.” Dunham joked that she was “going out with a bang” since this will be the final season of her show.
“Help, she just threw me off!” Shriver said to Matt Lauer at one point. “That’s the difference between generations. I wasn’t brought up talking like that.”
Dunham seemed to enjoy the chaos she wreaked upon Shriver, throwing her hands up in celebration as Lauer tried to restore order.
Dunham created, writes, stars in, executive produces and occcasionaly directs “Girls.” The show has been critically acclaimed throughout its run, winning two Emmys and two Golden Globes. Season 6 premieres this Sunday on HBO.
