The film is based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels about former NYPD cop Matthew Scudder, who works as an unlicensed private eye.

Neeson stars as Scudder, who agrees to help a drug trafficker (Dan Stevens) hunt down the men who murdered his wife.

Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver and Exclusive Media’s Tobin Armbrust produced the movie with Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher.

The trailer finds Neeson relying on a particular set of skills he famously used to strong effect in the “Taken” movies. “Tombstones” looks equally bleak and gritty, and the trailer employs a grim cover of Soundgarden’s hit song “Black Hole Sun” to hammer that point home.

You can take “A Walk Among the Tombstones” on Sept. 19. Watch the trailer below.
