Lindsey Graham Warns Trump: ‘Holy Hell to Pay’ if He Fires Jeff Sessions (Video)

“As a human being, I think [Trump] should show some respect for Jeff Sessions as a person,” Graham says

Sen. Lindsey Graham warned President Donald Trump on Thursday against firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions or else: “There will be holy hell to pay.”

Graham is the latest Republican to try to deter Trump from firing his attorney general, a move that would carry significant consequences for the U.S. government. The president has been regularly bashing Sessions because he recused himself from the investigation into whether or not Russia interfered with the election. Trump recently told the New York Times he wouldn’t have selected him for the job if he knew Session would recuse himself.

“It’s not a message to the president as much as it is to Jeff and the country. You know, the president has the right to fire anyone in his cabinet. As a human being, I think he should show some respect for Jeff Sessions as a person,” Graham said. “I hope it stop. I am 100 percent behind Jeff Sessions.”

Graham continued: “Sessions was the most loyal supporter to Donald Trump. He’s a rock-solid conservative.”

Graham then said he often disagrees with Sessions but respects him because of his integrity and said if Trump wants him fired, he should “use the power” and “accept the consequences” that would come with such a severe move.

“This effort to basically marginalize and humiliate the attorney general is not going over well in the Senate. I don’t think it’s going over well in the Conservative world,” he said.
