Lionsgate Licenses 139 Movies to Rainbow Media

“Monster’s Ball,” “Precious,” and “Punisher” among the movies that will air on Sundance, IFC and AMC

Lionsgate will license 139 of its theatrical titles to Rainbow Media, the companies announced on Wednesday.

Rainbow will air the movies on its IFC, Sundance, AMC and WE networks. Among the movies being sold to Rainbow for airing are Oscar winners "Precious," "Crash," and "Monster’s Ball," as well as more mainstream fare such as "Punisher" and "Ghost House."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was structured by Rand Stoll, Lionsgate executive vice president of television, and George Lentz, senior vice president of programming at Rainbow.

The films will air in the second, third and deep catalog windows.

"This deal underscores the growing appetite for content worldwide and our continued commitment to monetize our enormous filmed entertainment library and extend the revenue afterlife of our theatrical films," Kevin Beggs, president of Lionsgate’s Television Group, said in a statement.

In a release announcing the licensing agreement, Lionsgate said its motion picture and television library generated $323 million in sales last year.
