Malin Akerman to Sing and Dance in ‘Rock of Ages’

“Watchmen” star will appear alongside Tom Cruise in big screen adaptation of hit rock musical

Malin Akerman, who memorably slinked through "The Watchmen," will appear alongside Tom Cruise in New Line's "Rock of Ages," director Adam Shankman tweeted on Wednesday.

Following the departures of Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams, both of whom were attached to the project before taking lead roles in "Superman: The Man of Steel" and "The Dark Knight Rises," Akerman takes over the role of a rock journalist who is seduced by Cruise's Stacee Jaxx. She will sing Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is."

Shankman made light of his difficulty casting the role while announcing Akerman would be joining the project.

"After batman stole anne Hathaway, and superman gobbled up Amy Adams, I finally cast my Constance Stack: welcome to #rockofagesmovie Malin Akerman!," Shankman tweeted.

"Rock of Ages" is based on the hit Broadway musical and features the music of Pat Benetar, Bon Jovi, Journey, Poison, Twisted Sister and other artists from the 1980s. Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti and newcomer Diego Boneta co-star.
