Michael Fassbender Takes Kodi Smit-McPhee Under His Wing in First ‘Slow West’ Trailer (Video)

John Maclean directs Western also starring Ben Mendelsohn

Michael Fassbender gives the Western genre a shot in “Slow West,” and the first trailer for John Maclean’s film teases an irreverent tone but plenty of suspense in the drama also starring Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ben Mendelsohn.

Smit-McPhee plays a Scottish youth who travels to America during the Civil War in search of his true love — she who is also the object of pursuit by bounty hunters — only to meet and come under the protection of a mysterious traveler, played by Fassbender.

In their travels, the duo encounter plenty of danger and inflict some of their own, especially after they reluctantly team up with an outlaw played by Mendelsohn.

“Slow West” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was picked up by A24 and DirecTV. It will premiere exclusively on the sattelite provider on Apr. 16 before hitting theaters on May 15.
