The set of “Morning Joe” raised some uncomfortable legal questions Wednesday amid continuing discussion of Stormy Daniels, with co-host Mika Brzezinski bluntly asking whether the first lady had also been silenced.
“Does Melania have an NDA?” she asked. “And how is she feeling this morning finding out about a list of women who have signed NDA’s to keep their silence about sexual interactions with President Trump during the time he was married to her?”
Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti, has said that since launching his suit against the president, he has been approached by multiple other women with similar agreements. Brzezinski said that Avenatti was blitzing television screens in order to try and “collect” more NDAs from woman who may be out there.
The broader conversation on set was consumed with the question of why President Trump has declined to attack Daniels’ by name on Twitter.
Show regular John Heilemann said that Trump was no doubt weighing the possibility of more women with more NDA’s coming forward and that it explained why he has been so silent about Daniels on Twitter.
“A lot of [Donald Trump’s ] behavior is explained by A. ‘How do I try and stay out of the court and keep from being deposed in this case? And how many other NDAs are out there?’ How many women? What is the flood here? If Stormy Daniels wins, if Michael Avenatti wins? How many other women are going to come forward? How many of those women may have more damaging things on Donald Trump?”
Brzezinski weighed in with her theory: “I think he’s in a very uncomfortable place this morning which leaves him mute.”
Trump has consistently denied that any affair between he and Daniels ever took place.
