“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski unloaded on New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for spending time on a beach that was closed to the public, asking, “Why do you think you’re better than everybody else?”
“I just think it’s kind of rude,” Brzezinski said on Wednesday’s show. “That beach was closed. Why do you think you’re better than everybody else? Why do you think you work harder than everybody else?”
Brzezinski said she “doesn’t get it,” and questioned why Christie’s family got to enjoy the beach when nobody else was able to because of the government shutdown.
Earlier this week, Christie made national news for spending some time on the sands of Island Beach State Park, despite a government shutdown closing all state-owned facilities. Photos of Christie on the beach have been ridiculed and turned into internet memes.
When asked by reporters why he could have access to the park while others couldn’t, Christie responded, “That’s just the way it goes.”
Christie went on to add, “The governor has a residence at Island Beach. Others don’t. Run for governor and you can have the residence.”
The government shutdown in New Jersey ended in time for residents to hit the beach on July 4.
