On “Morning Joe” Friday, the gang took some shots at U.S. Senator and perennially low-hanging fruit Ted Cruz.
After the nasty primary battle between Trump and Cruz in 2016, Scarborough and his friends marveled at how quickly and extensively Cruz has fallen into line behind the president.
“How would you ever cozy up in any form to a man who defamed your deceased father in the most disgusting way?” asked show regular Donny Deutsch. “What kind of man are you that you can just show one face? That’s it, as a man. If you mess with my family, I don’t move on from that.”
Deutsch’s quip harkens back to one of the uglier moments in the campaign in which Donald Trump implied that Sen Cruz’s father Rafael Cruz was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Candidate Trump also retweeted an unflattering photo of Cruz’s wife, Heidi, and threatened “to spill the beans on” her for some unspecified reason.
The show played a moment from Thursday of Cruz joking to an NBC reporter that he was not worried about the JFK documents release yesterday potentially implicating his father.
Scarborough was in complete agreement saying that while serving in politics, he often let personal slights go, but never forgot ones directed to his family.
“If you said something about my family, I never forgot it,” said Scarborough. “There was a case where somebody said something about my friends who passed away, very powerful person in Washington. I never forgave him and I never will forgive him for making that family suffer even more.”
