MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough downplayed the importance of James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, saying none of it matters in the big picture.
“It seemed like a pretty bad day for the president and the spinning by his lawyer… was stunning to me,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said on Friday’s episode.
Scarborough didn’t agree with his co-host-turned-fiancé, although they both said it was a bad day for the country. The “Morning Joe” namesake then offered his thoughts on Comey’s hearing.
“Bottom line is, what happened yesterday was noise compared to what’s happening right now in Bob Mueller’s office,” Scarborough said. “That’s where it matters. Yesterday everybody can screech and yell and say hurray for our side. None of it matters.”
Mueller is in charge of the special committee appointed to investigating potential collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia. He will also look for evidence of obstruction of justice, such as the destruction of any records that could have provided links between the Trump’s staff and Russia, according to Politico.
“What matters is what Bob Mueller is looking at the evidence he’s gathering and the investigation he’s running,” Scarborough said.
