New ‘Suicide Squad’ Trailer Reveals Origins of Supervillain Task Force (Video)

DC Comics adaptation starring Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie will debut Aug. 6

Warner Bros. released a new trailer for the DC Comics movie “Suicide Squad” on Tuesday during The CW special “Dawn of The Justice League.”

The movie centers around a team of supervillains assembled by the U.S. government to carry out top-secret missions with a very low chance of survival.

The first official trailer reveals how the task force made up of “the most dangerous people on the planet” was created.

Dubbed the “worst heroes ever,” the tattooed team is seen breaking out of prison, sparking fires and “threatening to kill everyone and escape,” before heading off to save the world.

“We’re the bad guys,” they rightly proclaim.

The trailer quickly had fans fired up on social media, with many praising the rambunctious version of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” that supplied the theme music.

“Suicide Squad” stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn; Karen Fukuhara as Katana; Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc; Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Will Smith as Deadshot.

Jared Leto will also appear as The Joker, with Viola Davis playing government agent Amanda Waller.

David Ayer is directing the comic adaptation in addition to writing the screenplay. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are executive producing along with Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns.

“Suicide Squad” will open in theaters Aug. 5.
