New Yorker Leads National Magazine Award Nominations

Los Angeles Magazine earns three nominations, more than ever before

The New Yorker led with nine nominations in the National Magazine Award finalists announced Tuesday, while Los Angeles scored a publication-record three nominations.

The New Yorker and Los Angeles were among several magazines to score mulitple nominations in the Ellies, named for the reproductions of the Alexander Calder stabile "Elephant" that go to each winner. 

Magazines receiving multiple nominations include The Atlantic (4 nominations), Esquire (3), GQ (5), Harper’s Magazine (2), Los Angeles (3), Martha Stewart Living (2), Men’s Journal (2), National Geographic (4), New York (6), The New York Times Magazine  (6), The Paris Review (2), Real Simple (3), Scientific American (2), Texas Monthly (2), TIME (2), Vanity Fair (2), Virginia Quarterly Review (6), W (3) and Wired (3).

Six never-before-nominated titles were nominated: Cooking Light, House Beautiful, Lapham’s Quarterly, OnEarth, The Sun and Women’s Health.

Only the finalists in the 21 National Magazine Award categories for print magazines were announced Tuesday. Finalists in the Magazine of the Year category, which honors publications on print and digital platforms, will be announced next Tuesday.

The awards will be presented on Monday, May 9, in New York City.
