Nicki Minaj showed a softer side at the 2014 American Music Awards with one performance at least. While she hit the stage firing with her trademark energy and swagger for her performance of “Boom Boom” with Jessie J and Ariana Grande, she looked much different when she sang “Bed of Lies.”
The song, which features a chorus by Skylar Grey, is a more heartfelt number, and so Minaj kept things simple and subdued. She simply stood by Grey’s piano in an elegant white gown throughout the number, keeping the focus entirely on the song’s lyrics.
While we’ve seen countless singers stand idle by a piano while performing, the fact that this was the “Anaconda” singer made it stand out even more.
Without her usual cheeky theatrics and energy, viewers were left with a simple but powerful performance.
