Obama Asks for ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’ From Donald Trump in Aretha Franklin Mashup (Video)

Video created to pay tribute to The Queen of Soul, who died Thursday

Former President Barack Obama is asking for President Donald Trump to a show a little “Respect” in a new mashup video to the late Aretha Franklin’s famous song.

The video, published by baracksdubs on YouTube on Saturday, starts with clips of news reports since Trump’s inauguration in January 2017.

Then, Obama appears to sing Franklin’s iconic song in the parody clip, with the creators taking words from Obama’s appearances and speeches throughout the years and mashed them together to create the lyrics.

“I’ve been gearing up for the comeback with a lot of new dubs, and with the way Trump talks to the world, there was no better diss track than Obama singing Respect,” the video’s creator wrote. “This video is a statement, in solidarity with women, minorities, and everyone under attack in the Trump era. I never would have expected to release this dub, which I started on months ago, under these circumstances, but I hope you and everyone who loves the Queen of Soul enjoys this video. We love you back, Aretha.”

Franklin died Thursday in Detroit at the age of 76, after battling pancreatic cancer. Many public figures, including Obama and Trump, took to Twitter to express their condolences and gratitude for the singer’s musical contributions.
