Kim Coates was quick to violence as Tig Trager on “Sons of Anarchy,” but his new film “Officer Downe” finds him on the right side of the law — with a twist.
“He’s a good cop, he’s a really good cop, plays by the badge,” the actor tells TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell in a new episode of “Drinking With the Stars.” “He’s an awesome, awesome officer who actually died while he was serving in a freeway chase.”
He’s such a good cop, Coates said, “the LAPD decide to put his body on ice for 20 years hoping there’s some kind of technology that will bring him back.”
“So I’m part-human, part-Frankenstein robo-cop,” he says of the indie, which premieres Friday at the L.A. Film Festival and includes several “epic deaths” by his character.
Coates’ Tig was no stranger to near-death experiences in his many seasons on “Sons of Anarchy.”
The actor shot down reports about various spinoffs of the beloved FX series. “There’s no movie,” he said. “Brad Pitt is not playing John Teller.”
However, he did tease the possibility of a prequel somewhere down the line — along with Kurt Sutter‘s already-announced spinoff pilot centered on the Mayan MC gang.
