Get Swept Up in Boy Band Mania in ‘One Direction: This Is Us’ Trailer (Video)

Morgan Spurlock and his camera crew follow the boy band to the ends of the Earth

It's easy to hate on massively popular boy bands, but a new trailer for "One Direction: This Is Us" makes it even easier to give former "X-Factor" contestants Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson a break. It probably doesn't hurt that they did not win the singing competition.

The Morgan Spurlock-directed documentary paints the music superstars as five lads from humble beginnings that hit the big time, but haven't forgotten their past. That entire sentiment is summed up when Malik makes good on an old promise to buy a house for his mum.

"We're normal people doing this abnormal job," Horan said in the clip.

1D has essentially taken over the world — at least in the female teen and tween markets. Spurlock's film follows the atypical boy band on its journey around that globe.

"The fans were the ones that made up their minds that this band was going to be huge," said Simon Cowell in the video.
