Open Road Acquires Jon Favreau’s ‘Chef’ Starring Sofia Vergara, Robert Downey Jr.

Scarlett Johansson will also star

Open Road Films has acquired domestic distribution rights to Jon Favreau‘s “Chef,” the studio announced on Wednesday. Favreau will direct the film from his own script about a chef who loses his job and decides to open a food truck.

Favreau will also star as the chef with Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. and John Leguizamo filling out the cast.

“Led by the wildly talented Jon Favreau, this is a very exciting project with a fantastic script and a truly incredible group of actors,” Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg said in a statement.  “We are thrilled to be in business again with Aldamisa and to add this project to our 2014 slate.”

Aldamisa financed the film, which begins production in July. Karen Gilchrist and Sergei Bespalov are producing. Open Road will release it May, 2014. 

Ortenberg and Open Road colleagues Ben Cotner and Elliot Kleinbeg made the dealw tiwh CAA, which represented the filmmakers, and Jere Hausfater and Philip Elway of Aldamisa.
