“Bumblebee,” the first spinoff from the “Transformers” universe, is coming at you next Christmas.

The studio will roll out the film on Dec. 21, 2018, pushed from a planned release of June 8, 2018.

In addition to the updated release, the film has added WWE star John Cena to a cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Pamela Adlon, Stephen Schneider, Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi and Ricardo Hoyos.

Travis Knight serves as director. An official logline was also released:

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Shooting will begin on July 31 in Southern California. “Bumblebee” is produced by “Transformers” franchise veterans Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Chris Brigham serves as executive producer. Christina Hodson wrote the script.
