Penguin Helps Detective Gordon, Wreaks Havoc on ‘Gotham’ in Latest Fox Trailer (Video)

Robin Lord Taylor reaveals his DC Comics villain is alive on Monday’s episode

Penguin stands between Detective Jim Gordon and a murder charge in a new clip from Fox’s “Gotham.”

In the premiere episode of the Batman-inspired series, Jim (Benjamin McKenzie) pretended to put a bullet in the aspiring super-villain’s head to curry favor with criminals. But on Monday’s episode, “Alive & Well,” the truth finally comes out.

Penguin — a.k.a. Oswald Cobblepot — bursts through the front doors of the Gotham Police Department just as Jim is about to be charged with his murder, and makes a grand declaration.

“I’m Oswald Cobblepot,” he says. “I live, I breath.”

The public resurgence of Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) will serve to clear the good detective’s name, but the silver lining has a touch of grey. He’d promised crime boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and his crooked partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) that he’d killed Penguin, so now he’ll need to answer for his lie.

“I thought we were friends!” shouts Bullock, pointing a gun at his partner Jim.

“You go find Gordon and you bring him to me,” Mooney adds. “Still breathing.”

Who knew sparing someone’s life could have such deadly consequences?

“Gotham” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
