Two of Hollywood’s biggest publicity and branding agencies, PMK-BNC and Rogers & Cowan, on Tuesday announced they are merging.
The new, yet-to-be-named company, will be led by Cindi Berger (pictured above left), who is currently PMK-BNC chairman and CEO, and Mark Owens (above right), currently Rogers & Cowan CEO. Alan Nierob, currently Rogers & Cowan co-president, will be chairman of the new firm’s entertainment division.
The PR agencies have a combined client roster of more than 500 actors, musicians, producers, directors, content creators and athletes, along with global brands including Audi, Chopard, Microsoft, Hasbro, MasterCard and McDonald’s.
Both companies are owned by the Interpublic Group, the advertising conglomerate, but have operated as independent entities until now. The merger is expected to help the companies reduce operating costs.
“With our diverse roster of creative and brand clients, and seasoned management, this partnership provides a remarkable opportunity for us to take our clients and campaigns to new levels,” Berger said in a statement. “Our unique position and insight will deliver the best of brand marketing with the best of entertainment strategies, and further our ability to influence trends, spark meaningful conversations, and leverage culture to create defining moments and experiences that stand the test of time.”
“This is a game changing and transformative moment for our agency, and a move that will create significant value and tremendous opportunities for our company and clients around the world,” Owens added.
They will now oversee a company made up of over 350 marketing and communication experts based in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, Miami and London.
Shirley Hughes will be president of the brand marketing division, Brad Cafarelli and Fran Curtis will be vice chairmen of entertainment in Los Angeles and New York, respectively, and Bill Rosenthal will be COO and CFO.
“This merger allows us to combine the most talented client roster with the most talented group of individuals representing them,” Nierob said of the union. “Our success over the years has always been defined by providing the highest level of professionalism and personal representation worldwide to our entire client roster, which we will continue to do on a larger scale.”
Both firms have storied histories. Rogers & Cowan was founded in 1950. PMK, founded by Hollywood PR giant Pat Kingsley, merged with BNC in 2010.
