THE WRAP NEWS INC. NAMES MEDIA INDUSTRY VETERAN FRED SCHRUERS AS SENIOR WRITER

(Santa Monica, CA) – June 23, 2011 –  The Wrap News, Inc., the leading news organization covering the business of entertainment and media, is pleased to announce that veteran entertainment reporter Fred Schruers will be joining the news organization as a senior writer covering broad aspects of the entertainment and media industries.

“Fred is one of the liveliest and most knowledgeable observers of the entertainment landscape, and I can’t wait to hear what he has to say about Hollywood in 2011,” said Sharon Waxman, founder and editor-in-chief of TheWrap.

Schruers most recently covered the business of entertainment in his blog “The Hollywood Deal” at Portfolio.com, and after more recent work on a book project, returns to writing for the TheWrap with a wide-ranging brief centered on the interface between film studios, record labels, television productions and the corporate oligarchs who control them.

“I’m delighted to be joining a committed group of journalists who under the guidance of Sharon Waxman have created a vibrant web site that grows more essential every day,” said Schruers. Schruers joins TheWrap at the crossroads of other exciting events for the award-winning news organization, including the recent publication of EmmyWrap magazine, the launch of a successful Emmy screening series and the imminent launch of the PowerGrid ranking system.

Schruers brings over three decades of experience covering both the business and creative sides of the entertainment industry.  Beginning as the “Random Notes” correspondent at Rolling Stone, he wrote cover stories for the magazine on figures ranging from such musicians as Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, and Sheryl Crow, to film stars like Michael Douglas, John Travolta and Sandra Bullock, and television personalities including David Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld.

Schruers also wrote numerous profiles and movie stories for Premiere magazine and was part of the West Coast bureau team that researched and wrote the groundbreaking annual Power List. His profiles of directors at work include Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Michael Mann, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, and David Fincher, and he’s contributed to American Cinematographer magazine. He later diversified at Rolling Stone with an account of taking a hop in the rear seat of a Navy F-14, and for Men’s Journal he rode on a boomer sub and depicted Navy SEAL training.

Schruers will join TheWrap as of mid-July and complements a team of the most experienced, respected journalists working in the entertainment industry, led by editor-in-chief Waxman, and including Lew Harris, Tim Molloy, Brent Lang, Steve Pond, Johnnie Roberts and many others.

In addition, Lucas Shaw, a graduate of Columbia University, will be joining as a media reporter in early July.
