Relativity Media is aiming to amplify its awards season presence, as the company is launching a specialty division called R2 (R-squared) that will be run by Robbie Brenner, who will work closely with acquisitions executive Matt Brodlie to identify prestige titles, an individual with knowledge of the situation has told TheWrap.
Brenner produced last year’s AIDS drama “Dallas Buyers Club,” which won three Oscars including Best Actor for Matthew McConaughey and Best Supporting Actor for Jared Leto. She will retain her title as Relativity’s president of production.

R2 will focus on identifying potential awards contenders for platform releases to compliment the studio’s more commercial fare.
Brenner and Brodlie are currently on the ground in Toronto, where the duo are looking for product to fill the new specialty division’s pipeline.
