The Reprise Theatre Company has hired veteran theater executive Stephen Eich in an effort to turn around the financial difficulties of the troubled company, which was forced to cancel its 2011-2012 season due to fiscal concerns.
Reprise artistic director Jason Alexander and board president Barbara Fodor announced the hire in a letter to subscribers on Thursday.
Eich, who was the managing director of the Geffen Playhouse for eight years and most recently served as the Geffen's executive director, also spearheaded the financial turnaround of the Pasadena Playhouse.

"We are pleased to say that behind the scenes we are working toward a rebirth of Reprise that is responsible, artistically renewed, and moving ahead steadily," Alexander and Fodor said.
The letter also conceded that Reprise's previous financial model "was unsustainable."

Eich "comes with firsthand knowledge of producing, financial management and business skills," Alexander and Fodor said in the letter. "We are confident that he is a strong addition to our organization."
Alexander and Fodor said that new ideas for Reprise, such as new venues for the company's musical performances and more diverse programming, will be unveiled "[r]ight after the first of the year."
