Rilean Pictures Plans Live-Action Remake of ‘Starchaser: The Legend of Orin’ (Exclusive)

The animated 3D “Starchaser: The Legend of Orin” was released in 1985. A live-action remake is in the works

Rilean Pictures has acquired rights to "Starchaser: The Legend of Orin," a 3D animated movie from 1985, and plans to remake it as a live-action film, Rilean Pictures told TheWrap Thursday.

Juan Iglesias, a Rilean partner, told TheWrap that he saw the cartoon as a child, and became fascinated with it then.

Steven Hahn produced and directed the original "Starchaser," about Orin, a human slave living in the subterranean Mine-World, who embarks on a quest to find a sword blade that will defeat his captors and bring about freedom. Hahn will executive produce the new movie.

Through a partnership with Go Digital and Lionsgate, Rilean is distributing "The Trouble with Bliss," starring Michael C. Hall, Brie Larson, Peter Fonda and Lucy Liu, on Video on Demand March 23, concurrent with the theatrical release by Variance Films.

Iglesias said that Rilean is now developing "Starchaser" and is looking for a director and writer.
