“Riverdale” fans will get a look inside Jughead’s family dynamic in Season 3 with the addition of his mother and little sister, Gladys and Jellybean, played by Gina Gershon and Trinity Likins, respectively, it was announced Sunday during The CW show’s panel at New York Comic Con.
Gladys and Jellybean will join the show Dec. 12 on a recurring basis. Gershon’s Gladys Jones is a biker “businesswoman” who runs a chop shop that doubles as a Serpent compound. She keeps tight control over her crew of teenaged car-parts thieves.
Jellybean — aka JB — has the smarts of someone twice her age, making her the perfect partner in crime for her mom, as they run scams to pay the bills.
“When Gladys arrives, you know, she used to be the Serpent Queen, so I think there might be problems between her and Betty,” “Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TheWrap in August. “And I think Gladys may know that FP and Alice had a history, they might be currently involved in the present, so that might be problems there as well.”
And Aguirre-Sacasa said that although he hopes Jughead and his kid sister will get along, “it’ll be a little bit of a journey” for them to get there.
“Riverdale” stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Luke Perry, Mädchen Amick, Marisol Nichols, Madelaine Petsch, Ashleigh Murray, Casey Cott, Mark Consuelos and Skeet Ulrich.
Based on the Archie Comics characters, “Riverdale” is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater are executive producers.
Season 3 of “Riverdale” premieres Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 8/7c on The CW.
